sichaun
an image from the earthquake that devastated most of the sichuan province in china last year. it struck during this couples wedding.
one of the most perfect images i've ever seen, the combination of bliss and pain, beauty and destruction create such friction and contrast. its almost too perfect to be real like its a set-up gregory crewdson style multi thousand pound production.

-
this is a constant in my life at the moment, being my desktop image. i find it awesomely inspiring, so powerful yet so peaceful. it puts my mind at rest yet still gives me a thousand million things to consider. the colours, the reflections, the grey cloudy moody sky, the perfect white ice with blue turquoise tints, the mountainous triangular shape, the dark slice that cuts across the bottom and hints at whats below. and to think about the corner that has snapped off, its probably bigger than your house. there's also three textures in this that really give the image depth, the backdrop of soft clouds, the harsh angular ice and the closely rippled dark water in the foreground. perfect.

image intervention - trees
i love these. they relate to a post i made earlier titled image intervention. its hard to know if they're real or cut from another image and pasted in. i think thats the point though, almost creating the means for someone to magic wand them in photoshop. i love how the white backdrop removes the tree from the background turning it into an image of itself.
ivanhoe reservoir, los angeles
the first batch of 400,000 4 inch, black plastic balls were released to form a floating cover over 7 acres of the reservoir. conceived to protect the water from sunlight, because when it mixes with the bromide and chlorine in the water, the carcinogen bromate can form. they will release approximately 3 million in total. it looks amazing, and i'm very happy that its not a sony advert.
rodney mullen
because i had to remind myself just how incredible this man was, this is in japan 1984, long socks, flat deck. check his later videos for more rails and rolling stuff. he was my biggest inspiration when i used to skate.
